BOTOX®

What is BOTOX®?

Neuromodulators like Botox® and Xeomin® are pharmaceutical products made from purified proteins derived from botulinum bacteria. Approved by Health Canada, these proteins are used in cosmetic treatments to reduce wrinkles and smooth dynamic lines on the skin.

How does BOTOX® work?

As we age, wrinkles in areas like the eyes, forehead, and frown lines are caused by repetitive facial movements, collagen loss, sun exposure, and skin thinning. Botox treats these wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause them, resulting in smoother skin and preventing further deepening. It’s an effective non-surgical solution for reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

It works by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles through the blockage of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that enables muscle contraction. This relaxation reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows.

Common cosmetic applications of Botox include reducing forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and wrinkles around the lips or nose. It can also contour the jawline by relaxing the masseter muscle.

The treatment is quick, and offers visible results within 3–7 days.
